When the owner of the car attempted to drive off, two of the men began firing gunshots, striking multiple homes and cars, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Three men tried to carjack a resident’s car while the owner was parked, inside, on their driveway, according to the Homewood Police Department. When the victim refused to give up his car, attempting to drive off, two men began firing gunshots at it.

Police said the men fled from the area in an awaiting vehicle, and that the victim was able to escape without any injuries. However, multiple houses and cars were struck with bullets, according to police.

The incident occurred at the 19100 block of Jonathan Lane on Tuesday, police said. The department said officers responded to the call of an attempted carjacking around 7:15 p.m. This is an ongoing investigation and no additional details may be released at this time, according to police.
